Summer Faith

God lingers in the creases and folds of our lives just as much in summer as any other season. In fact, as we spend quality family time together, we not only grow in love and intimacy, but with just a bit of intention we can also grow in faith together. Our relationship with God is bound up in our relationships with those whom we love and live with.
Summer often brings important milestone events for families–graduation, wedding, significant anniversary, leaving home–to name a few. If we mark these events with an intentional faith effort then not only do we acknowledge God’s presence at the event, but also in our memory of the event down through the years.
  • Pray-cation: Create a prayer center focused on your summer travels and those of the special people in your life. By praying over your own travels and standing in prayer for those who are traveling, you will name God’s presence in some unexpected places and remember God’s presence everywhere you go.
  • Fun in the Sun Donation: If you’re looking for a summer service project, why not take up a collection:  or gather a group to chip in and purchase pool/sand toys to donate to a family or local organization that has a children’s program?
  • A Mammoth Picnic: Let’s revisit the time when Jesus had a mammoth picnic. It may not have been planned but as the guests kept multiplying, Jesus, as host, was concerned about how to feed them all. Some were probably relatives and others were probably relatives of relatives. What can we learn from this Bible story about how our own extended family gathers for meals?
  • Blessings for Summer Events: Here is a collection of blessings to ritualize and make note of the special occasions and activities that often take place during the summer months
