When you are sick…..make a prayer basket

When you are sick…..make a prayer basket

When you are sick…..make a prayer basket

Right after Christmas I came down with an upper respiratory infection that turned into pneumonia. With a cough and a fever I did not feel like doing anything. I took my medicine, slept, and ate the meals that people brought to me for about one week.

Prayer BasketI found that turning reading a book or saying the office was impossible. I created in my minds eye a prayer basket. Into the basket I put all the things I could not handle like getting well quickly; having a night of rest without coughing; moving forward with projects that I had started but had to put on hold. All of this I gave to the Lord. I knew He could handle everything in the basket. I believe he would. With that done I turned to the prayers that seem to run through me.

When I am the weakest I am the strongest. When I cannot handle things then the Lord is free to step in and take over.

Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me and have mercy on (someone I wish to pray for.) I find this prayer comforting. Adapted from a prayer by Henri Nouwen

The Lord is my Shepherd. He leads me to lay down in green pastures. Ps. 23

Heal me Oh Lord heal me in your steadfast love.
Hold me up with your strong right arm.
You are my rock and my salvation.

Jesus, Jesus may I learn to love and posses you for you are perfect love and may my ever act praise you.

Thank you Lord! Thank you.

These are the prayers that over the years have become part of me. I say them when I am so sick that I cannot concentrate. I say these prayers while the Lord takes care of the needs in the basket.
