Get Physically Fit and Stay Active

The Ursuline Center offers a variety of fitness programs for those folks just starting out to those looking for a new challenge.

We offer the following group exercise and water programs for adults:

SilverSneakers® Fitness is an innovative health, exercise and wellness program helping older adults live healthy, active lifestyles. Get fit, have fun, make friends!

SilverSneakers® Muscular Strength & Range of Movement helps you have fun and move to music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

SilverSneakers® Cardio Circuit combines fun and fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance with a standing circuit workout. You’ll work on upper-body strength using hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball, alternating with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching, and relaxation in a comfortable position.

Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30-9:30 a.m. or 10-11 a.m.

 

SilverSneakers® YogaStretch is designed for older adults, leading them through a series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and a final relaxation help promote stress reduction and improve mental clarity.

This class is geared toward those who have not been practicing yoga, have never practiced yoga, or have some physical limitations that would deter them from attending a traditional yoga class. “It is a very gentle, relaxed pace and not meant to challenge our cardiovascular condition,” states Paul Joseph, the certified instructor who leads the SilverSneakers Yoga class at The Ursuline Center.

Goals are to improve overall fitness, promote health education as it relates to health status issues, and encourage social interaction in a group setting. Class meets Saturdays at 9 a.m.

Fitness Passport is a corporate health and fitness program that allows its members to access a wide range of their local health and fitness suppliers.

The  purpose is to inspire more people to start regular exercise by delivering a service that represents excellent value and provides plenty of variety.

 

Silver & Fit is a fitness and healthy aging program designed to help you achieve better health through exercise. Eligibility is based on participating insurance companies and those Medicare eligible – usually 65+. It is a basic membership at no cost for those enrolled; including all the benefits an annual member would receive.

 

Low Impact Water Exercises are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. or 11:45 a.m.–12:45 p.m. Participants in programs listed above may use their swipe cards to attend.

We offer additional aquatic programs for a variety of age groups:

Water Aerobics Classes Sponsored by The Ursuline Center are Mondays and Wednesdays from 3 -6 p.m. and and Saturdays in the morning.

Arthritis Aquatics are offered at the Motherhouse pool by The Woodlands, LLC and the Arthritis Foundation. Classes are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the morning and Tuesdays and Thursdays in the afternoon. Contact Cathy Crawford at 330.792.7681.
